Sketches

The Chinese did it on scraps of silk, the Japanese on rice paper. The ancient Greeks sketched on clay tablets. The Romans used sand and the Tunisians papyrus. Leonardo sketched on linen. Today, we prefer high rag content artist bond paper. But the process is the same - capture the thought, the moment, the concept, the essence. Sketching is not drawing, which requires planning, forethought and correction. Sketching is quick, light and incomplete. It is also the most flexible tool the designer has.
